Cloud Gate 2 was formed in 1999 by Lin Hwai-min, the Founder and ArtisticDirector of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre. It showcases talented young dancers in original works by innovative young choreographers. Wu Kuo-chu, the choreographer of Oculus, was a legend in the art circle of Taipei. While digging deep into the dark areas of life, his choreographies always glitter with hilarity. German dance critics have described Wu's works as “the perfect combination of playfulness, lightness and depth.” Wu passed away in 2006. Oculus is a Latin word for eyes or eye-shaped window. It is also the circular opening on the roof of the Pantheon. Through Oculus , Wu simply speaks to the audience his hopes through movement.
