Holographic Projection Costume Show Twins

In the 18th century, the German classical philosopher Kant proposed the philosophical concept of thing-in-itself, referring to an objective entity that exists outside of peoples feelings and understanding. He believes that peoples perceptual knowledge is produced by the influence of foreign objects. People can only understand the phenomenon that foreign objects act on the senses. We will explore and express the philosophical concept of thing-in-itself through the combination of costumes and holographic projection. Through the holographic projection technology, the physical costumes are divided into virtual three-dimensional images. This image cannot be touched and perceived, and can be compared to an objective entity that exists outside peoples feelings and understandings, that is, the thing-in-itself. In the concept of costume design, we get inspiration from traditional styling and refine it. Using traditional techniques such as tie-dyeing, weaving, and crocheting, combined with the scientific and technological strength of holographic projection technology, the sense of simplicity and the sense of science and technology are intertwined to create a fantastic parallel world.

Drama Waiting for Farewell

On March 8, 2014, an airplane disappeared inexplicably from the planet. All 239 people on the passenger plane had no news. Five years have passed and the plane is still missing. The missing things were investigated for several years, and the relevant departments have given up. The only family members who did not give up looking for the victims were none of them who believed that their loved ones had died. Because of long waits and anxiety, many families have been confirmed to suffer from depression, delusions and a variety of mental illnesses. The story begins with this background.A psychiatrist is treating a patient with severe paranoia due to the disappearance of the plane. The patient is addicted to the thoughts of her husband, thinking about living in some of the life fragments. But when she was awake, the hopeless wait would reappear, and she even showed self-harm. So there are two contradictions in the doctor who treated her. Will forgetting be more humane than healing?

Themed Charity Exhibition Xi Mi

The "Xi Mi" themed public welfare exhibition featured cute cats in the campus, which was presented through visual forms such as photos, texts, video, paintings and cultural creations.The content mainly focuses on the life photos of the kittens on campus, the story of their adoption and the interaction between the life of the caring alumni who adopted them. During the exhibition, there will also be a charity sale around "Xi Mi" culture and creation created by the team, promotion of "Xi Mi" love activities, and appeal to more people to save small animals with love.The cats of Shanghai Theatre Academy are the unique scenery in the campus. The love for animals shows the students different charm under the stage. Not being selfish and offering love actively enhances the individuals sense of responsibility and makes them more aware of the value of life. To be a healthy "person" before making art is the order of our predecessors. Our project, in the creation of art, integrates the theme of caring for life and delivering warmth, which is just a kind of compliance and embodiment of the precepts in this new era.

Exhibition Journey to the East

The exhibition Journey to the East is the first group exhibition based on the academic theory of Animamix, trend art, and Urbart with the concept of spreading the spirit of oriental trend culture to the public. It is trying to express the new aesthetic trend in the 21st century. Oriental trend culture is deeply influenced by the specific oriental traditional culture, art, philosophy, and aesthetics passing through generations. It could be especially seen from the trend of "national style" which has been really popular these years in China. Journey to the East is the exhibition focuses on the study of Chinese Art Aesthetics and its contributions to the public; also, representing the imagination and exploration of the future.

Poetry and music also have been collaborating with each other since the ancient times. SearchingPoetry and Music is concert of traditional and modern Chinese musical poetry and poetic music, which leads the audience to travel in time and space.SearchingPoetry and Musicwas created by Lucy Luan and Hang Yue based on their same background of radio hosting and passion about traditional Chinese music. Lucy has been playing the Guzheng- the 21 stringed zither since she was little and has done all sorts of collaborations with different styles of music around the world, while Hang Yue is a singer and song writer and has released an EP of his own compositions. In this concert, you will understand more about the traditional chinese culture through vocal and instrumental performing, poetry reading, opera singing and etc, which will take you to know more about chinese culture and the roots of the chinese people.

The Butoh Performance Image

The butoh performance Image, was taken from the Chinese idiom " various phenomena appear to ones eye". It is a work constructed by the subconscious mind buried deep beneath the surface of the body. Everything that is expressed is based on a more intuitive sensibility and instinct than rational philosophical thinking. Compared with the body-based morphological construction and the transformation of force, is more like the process of rebuilding the external world by the empty body of the dancer, as the gate of the image in the subconscious. Drama The Dagger

Yu Drama StudioYu Drama Studio established in 2016 spring, set up by a group of young people who have a dream and enchanted by theatre to declare a formal war to life and chase the good future of the art world of theater. It was composed of all departments students of Shanghai Theatre Academy and theater lovers in society aiming to analysis classical from a modern perspective and give a new life to play by using diverse methods. In the meantime, they are also keeping questing and studying the creation of theater arts and the training of performance art. We will try our best to build the steps to theater art palace and move forward step by step. [Everyone has a dagger given by the lord in his hand. However, does protection mean to hurt someone else by using our dagger?]This is a story which time and space are highly abstracted. The story is about a mother who lost her daughter in the war and a young handsome war criminal. They are standing from different points of view to face the cruel justice and the hatred of kindred, which caused them to fight each other with dagger……This is the allegory about humanity and truth. Also, this adaption pays more attention to another different perspective which enforces the main thought of the dagger, an invisible weapon that everyone owns. It also focuses on the story of salvation between the mother who would die to protect her child and the soldier who kills for survival.We may hurt people around us unconsciously by releasing our weapon in order to defend our faith and protect our love that is deep inside of hearts. After that, yet we still try to justify this guilt by getting it a reasonable ground……Is humanity been used by this dagger or, on the contrary, it uses dagger? How can we define right or wrong?

Experimental Drama Ghaffar’s Chinese Dream

Using multimedia (music, image and video) Ghaffar Pourazar tells his story and demonstrates how watching Beijing Opera one night in London in 1993, completely changed his life. How he chased the troupe to Beijing and started living and training with children at the Beijing Opera school and through sickness and pain reconditioned his 32 year old body fit for football and hockey into a singing dancing acrobatic Beijing Opera Warrior and Monkey King. Throughout the story telling Ghaffar puts on costumes, paints his face and demonstrates parts of his early plays: SAN Cha Kou, Tiao Hua Che, Wusong plays and Shi Xiu Tan Zhuang and Monkey King plays. This is about amazing costumes from the Ming Dynasty and colors, designs, forms and movements on the stage which were passed down from ancient times, then refined and passed down again. Ghaffar uses audience participation throughout the evening, inviting the audience to learn Beijing Opera movements and sounds and use of props.In between the live performances and multimedia demonstrations we hear about the tragedies of loneliness, sickness and physical pain next to the joy and excitement of learning a beautiful art form with energetic young people, making friends and learning a new culture. Hearing immense group shouts of joy at the site of dumplings in the Beijing Opera school canteen, and becoming the kids football Trainer at lunch time. IT IS ABOUT THE EXTRA RESPECT AND KINDNESS THAT MOST CHINESE SHOWED TO A FOREIGNER. It is about a kind of humanity that survives in China. It is also about traveling the YI Dai YI LU countries with Beijing Opera, some for the first time in history and performing his role as the monkey King in Persian, Turkish, Spanish and English, in addition to the original Chinese. Finally it is about winning recognition and awards and performing for Dukes and Duchesses, ministers, ambassadors, Mayors, Secretaries of State, pop stars and VIP guests of the Chinese government. It is about touring China and the world with the Beijing Opera companies and some of the most beautiful, skillful and lively actors, actresses and masters of the art and sharing their lives, joys and tragedies. He completes his monkey face and costume and performs an excerpt from Havoc in Heaven. Finally Ghaffar performs excerpts from his latest program combining Beijing opera with Broadway musicals.

A black beam of light

This is an original youth drama, which is one of the few original youth dramas in Shanghai. It originated from the Youth Drama project funded by Shanghai Charity Foundation in 2017. Actors were recruited through drama workshops in Shanghais middle school campus. After ten months of professional training, they came to the stage. The script is adapted to the stage style according to the classic western childrens picture books. The play is a satirical comedy, which is divided into three stories, including If Life Fails You, Who Moved My MeatBones and the Magic Corridor of Disgust and Praise.

Puppet show Come Across In Childhood

Shanghai Happy Horse Puppet Theater Activity Center Shanghai Happy Horse Puppet Theater Activity Center is associated by Professional Puppet Acting Team; Professional Children Theater Team; Children Educational Team; is one of the best puppet theater group in Shanghai. Hobby Horse Puppet Theater is dedicated into inheriting and developing Chinese traditional puppetry culture; as well as running a program called "Youth Puppetry Training Organization " which is going to develop more of the Youths members to understand and develop the puppetry art. In recent years, Happy Horse produced over one hundred public performances in Shanghai and performed in over fifty schools. Happy Horse has also been showed up in some local TV Channel such as Shang Hai Oriental Local TV Channel on the program called Xiao Ao Jiang Hu, Guang Dong Local TV Channel Puppet Movement and etc. Come Across In Childhood is a story about love and growth. In the story, there are two papermen fall in love with each other. From the first encounter and acquaintance then being brave for pursuing love and end up as a sweet love, just like everyone else having their first love. It presents the pure love belong to everyone. Come across in Childhood is not as same as the traditional puppet show, it is a new element puppet show by creativities, using the abandon paper to create paperman to present the shyness, movement and love emotions and so on. Even though this is a dumb show without dialogue in the story with, it is full of romantic love.

Contemporary Dance - Whip

Whip takes its inspiration from a folk dance of the Bai called The Whip Dance. It is the most popular one of Bais seventy four folk dance genres. The Whip Dance is saturated with Bais history and customs. It represents their humor, primitive simplicity, elegance and energy. This is Jilans first international collaboration, working with the talented London based Hong Kong composer Joanne Clara and Marie Cantenys, a famous cloth designer from France. The lighting design is by Fabiana Piccioli who is based in Rome and has long cooperation with Akram Khan. Farooq Chaudhry, the co-founder of Akram Khan Dance Company, is the producer of Whip. Maya DongDong Jilan is a Bai and the Bai are ethnic minority living in the Yunnan Province in China. Raised in a rural village she grew up with nature-earth, trees, water, fire, heaven, people and animals. In 2004, when Jilan was twelve, Chinas iconic choreographer Yang Liping recognised her talents and invited Jilan to join Yunnan Yang Liping Arts & Culture Co., Ltd. Jilan has danced in Yangs most important works such as Dynamic Yunnan, Peacock, Under Siege, and Winter Peacock, etc. She is one of the companys longest serving members.

Contemporary Dance - The Cube

Through the unique medium of body, the lens is focused at the individuals, who are hustling in the diverse metropolis - Shanghai, and tries to explore the relationship between these individuals and the space. Living in such a city, everyone is subject to tangible or intangible constraints. In this work, the real society is scaled down to a miniature. The model and device constructed on the stage represent and symbolize the relationship between the individual and the society as well as between the body and the space. The work intends to discovery the alien aesthetics hidden in the human body, the tenacious vitality of the human beings in a limited space, and the inner momentum generated through resistance against the space. Du YanhaoDu Yanhao, who lives in Shanghai now, youth director and performance artist. Co opera troupes include: Shiki Theatre Company, New Zealand Black Grace Dance Company, New Zealand Footnote Dance Company, Scotland Janis Claxton Dance Company, Beijing LDTX Dance Company, Shanghai Xie Xin Dance Theatre, Punchdrunk International, SMG Shanghai Media & Entertainment Group, D.Lab Dance, Ear Childrens Theatre. He has cooperated with the top artists of the world include: Asari Keita, Kato Keiji, Sang Jijia, Ma Bo, Li Hanzhong, Liu Bin, Zi Wei, Wang Jianjun, Hu Songwei, Wang Jianhui, Jiri Kylian, Paul Taylor, Malia Johnston, Janis Claxton, Neil leremia, Sarah Foster, Eyal Dadon, Taane Mate, Tairoa Royal, Raewyr Hill and so on. He has visited more than 20 countries for the exchange of art festivals. Performances are involved in dance theatres, musicals, dramas, dance videos, cross boundary cooperation and other fields. Musical and drama experience: the British Punchdrunk made the invading drama "Sleep No More" presented by SMG LIVE of Shanghai Media & Entertainment Group. Andrew Lloyd Webber composes the Japanese and Chinese versions of the musical CATS Japanese dramatist Asari Keita wrote and directed the musical Ri Koran. Main works: Newtons Cradle Of Flesh And Bone, Doll, Two Person Structure and so on.
