Drama “To kill or to be killed”

Two stage drifters return, grappling with each over brilliant acting skills and attempting to uncover the mystery of the terminator. The comedy of To Kill or to be Killed tells a story about ‘executive terminators. The work was written by Huisen Pan and directed by Haoran Wang, and was once starred by the Hong Kong award-winning actor Anthony Wang and reputable film star Kwan-Ho Tse. In the play, two killers, Beiyue and Nanyue, are assigned to carry out their tasks by the ‘Division. Despite a rather political choice of the names, the play does talk about politics, but lifethe meaning of life is carefully examined during the process of killing. The roles of these two killers were created based on personal characteristics of the two actors. Huisen Pan, however, doesnt like a killer to be of a film stereotype of a cold-faced heroic figure; instead, he goes to the opposite. He takes out the legendary trait on killers and has them returned as an absolutely ordinary being. Putting aside their mysterious veils, his killers do cry and laugh like average people. In this play, the two killers are confined in the same space waiting for their targets, yet they are actually apart. The story begins with an odd setting, bringing the audience into the world of two marginalized lives. They play the game of death, embrace darkness instead of brightness and mask their fear by pretending to be brave. The process of waiting for the targets is presented in a comical and absurd way, aiming to touch upon the spiritual enlightenment that is deeply buried in human nature.
